Lanzerac
This
was followed hot on the heels by the Lanzerac Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, which won
a Gold Medal. A total of 1 763 medal contenders were rated by a highly
experience panel of international judges, joined by local wine specialists.
The Lanzerac Pionier Pinotage, which
is one of three wines in the Heritage range, is a tribute to the first world’s
first bottled Pinotage – a 1959 Lanzerac Pinotage. A big mouth-feel,
complex and velvety palate, resulting in a long and lingering aftertaste
rounds off this award-winning wine. Ideally suited to hearty game dishes or rich
meaty casseroles. Available directly from the Tasting Room at R500 per bottle. Last
month the Lanzerac Pinotage 2013 was honoured with the prestigious JF
Hillebrand Pinotage Trophy at the 2015 Michelangelo International Wine
& Spirits Awards. These accolades add further credibility to what has
become a proudly South African varietal, and that of the brand.
The Lanzerac Cabernet Sauvignon,
which forms part of the estate’s Premium range,
displays flavours of violet, leather, blackberry and youngberry with
hints of cocoa, almond and cedar. A full-bodied wine with excellent
balance on the palate and a lingering aftertaste. Best enjoyed on its own or
with charred Gruyere cheese, braised short ribs, Mushroom Stroganoff, grilled
eggplant or even bitter chocolate. Available from most wine stores
nationwide or directly through the Tasting Room at R130 per bottle.
