Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2016 has triumphed as a quintessential South African cool climate rendition of this noble Bordeaux variety, bringing home a gold medal from the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon 2017 in France.

Pitched against 861 entries from all the major Sauvignon Blanc producers both New World and Old, Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2016 was one of only two South African wines to clinch a gold medal. The judges comprised a panel of 65 international experts from 17 countries.

Crafted from different vineyard sites harvested at varying stages of ripeness, the Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc gold medallist is an unbridled expression of the Steenberg terroir. With each block imparting unique characteristics ranging from flinty, grassy, green pepper to gooseberry and ripe tropical flavours, this wine captures the full Sauvignon Blanc flavour spectrum with cool climate finesse.

“The 2016 vintage delights with notes of gooseberry, lime blossom, nettles and white grapefruit with underlying minerality at its core from the Steenberg terroir. Its striking and juicy acidity keeps it vibrant and fresh on a soft textured palate,” is how cellarmaster JD Pretorius describes this latest award winner from the Steenberg cellar.

Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2016 is available at a cellar door price of R125.
