Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourist Association
The Franschhoek Wine Valley will be holding their inaugural Franschhoek Uncorked this year from Friday, 31 August until Sunday, 2 September. This event epitomizes a refreshingly novel spring experience, affording the Valley’s highly esteemed wineries an opportunity to showcase their new vintages and releases.
With most of the Franschhoek Vignerons participating in this innovative initiative, there promises to be something for everyone. Well-reputed wineries such as Boekenhoutskloof, Boschendal, Cabrière, Graham Beck Wines, La Motte, L’Ormarins, Môreson and Rupert and Rothschild will be coming to the party, offering tastings of their wines and hosting charming events.

This new spring event invites people to soak up the Valley’s country hospitality, fine wine, delectable cuisine and picturesque scenery as they visit a myriad of top-notch Franschhoek wineries. Visitors can tantalize their taste buds with sushi, oysters and bubbly and a plethora of other gastronomic delights.

Each participating wine farm will have exciting activities on offer: tasting their new wine releases and vintages, cellar and vineyard tours, barrel-tastings, wine-tasting on horseback, scrumptious food and wine pairings, art exhibitions, live music, golf-driving competitions amidst spectacular settings, to name but a few of these delightful experiences. A more comprehensive, detailed list of activities will be posted on the website shortly.

An access card system will be implemented to ensure the successful running of Franschhoek Uncorked. These access cards, at R50.00 each, will permit free wine tasting at participating wineries for the duration of the event. A shuttle service will facilitate responsible tasting and allow for easy, hassle-free transport on this Franschhoek meander.

Franschhoek Uncorked also coincidently marks the launch of another inaugural event, The  Franschhoek Affair, which is effectively ‘Franschhoek on Sale’, where shops, restaurants, farms, boutiques, hotels, and guesthouses are all offering reduced rates for the month of September.

Emily Dickenson wrote, ‘a little madness in the spring is wholesome even for the king’. In that vein, come and indulge yourself in this silly season, as you witness the country’s gourmet capital blossom and come alive.
