Role players in the wine industry attending the Winebiz Conference at Erinvale, Somerset West on 26 July were advised that the Western Cape Liquor Act will be implemented at the beginning of 2012.
Danie Cronjé, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated confirmed during his presentation that the Regulations under the Western Cape Act which have been published for public comment earlier this year have been amended and will be published in September.

Certain parts of the Act will be put in operation in September or October to enable the responsible MEC to appoint certain staff members required in terms of the new Act.

The remainder of the Act will be put into operation in early 2012.

Cronjé recommended that role players ensure that their houses are in order in respect of their liquor licences as the additional requirements of the new Act will probably make it more difficult and expensive to obtain new liquor licences or make changes to existing licences.”
