The Western Cape provincial government may be considering a ban on alcohol advertising.
According to Danie Cronjé, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated, the draft program for the Western Cape Liquor Conference on the 9th of September has been released. (Please click here to download the draft program).

The program includes a panel debate on alcohol advertising, more specifically, whether “to ban or not to ban”.

It also includes a group discussion on the same topic to be led by Advocate Sanet Botha, the Deputy Chairman of the Western Cape Liquor Board.

The Gauteng Provincial Government recently also indicated that it is considering a ban on alcohol advertising when it released its draft Liquor Policy for public comment.

According to Cronjé his involvement with the drafting of the Western Cape Liquor Act confirmed how important it is for stakeholders to use opportunities to present information in support of their view otherwise legislation will be drafted without taking it into account.
