| Lomond wines richly rewarded at Top 100 SA Wine Challenge |

| Four wines from Lomond, three Sauvignon Blancs and a Syrah, have been included in the Top 100 SA Wines for 2012.

These are the Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc of both the 2010 and the 2011 vintages, the Sugarbush Sauvignon Blanc of 2010 and the Conebush Syrah of 2008. All four are single-vineyard wines.
This was announced on Thursday, 19 April 2012 at the awards ceremony held in St James, Cape Town. Lomond's wines are marketed by Cape Legends which handles the marketing for a portfolio of top estates and wineries.
The judging panel under the chairmanship of well-known British wine critic Tim Atkin MW included judges from major markets such as Canada, the UK, Sweden and Japan as well as several local wine personalities such as Duncan Savage, the highly-rated winemaker of Cape Point Vineyards.
Cape Legends marketing manager Lize-Marie Gradwell said the two Lomond Sauvignon blancs had been garnering awards locally and overseas for virtually every vintage since their launch in 2005 and 2006. In the latest Platter South African Wine Guide these wines earned four and four and a half star ratings respectively.
Although markedly different in their taste profile, the wines are made from grapes harvested in adjoining vineyards on the Lomond farm lying beyond Gansbaai and near the sea. The reason for these differences in grapes growing in such close proximity is the unique geological formations on the farm which have created a wide range of divergent soil types.
She said red and white cultivars seem to do equally well in the cool climate of the farm. "Just like the Sugarbush, the 2008 Conebush Syrah, which won double gold at Veritas in 2010, is also a Platter four and a half star wine. It is a beautifully integrated, elegant wine that in my view is deserving of the highest praise."
Small quantities of all four of these wines are still available in the trade.
