Celebrate 340 years of SA Brandy with Van Ryn's 20 Year Old

South African brandy is 340 years' old this year and to celebrate, the five-star luxury Van Ryn's Distillery near Stellenbosch is offering a snifter of its glorious, top-of-the-range 20 Year Old, served with a slice of sumptuous fruitcake, at R50 per person.
The multi-awarded potstill holds the title of International Wine and Spirit Worldwide Best Brandy and the International Spirits Challenge for Best Brandy and has also been richly rewarded by Veritas. Satin-smooth in texture, its generous notes of raisin, prune, spice and walnuts makes it the perfect companion to deliciously moist and spicy cake, densely studded with dried fruits.

South Africa’s very first brandy was made 20 years after the Dutch East India Company established a settlement under Jan van Riebeeck in 1652. In 1672, a cook aboard the ship De Pijl anchored in Table Bay, is recorded as having made the first brandy from Cape-grown grapes.

Although his name is lost to history, he was the person who set in motion the creation of South Africa’s brandy industry. Today, the country is acknowledged by aficionados all over the world for the unrivalled excellence of our specialty brandies.

Van Ryn’s is located on the banks of the Eerste River, close to Stellenbosch, just 40 minutes from Cape Town. The Van Ryn’s Collectors’ Reserve retails at over R1 000 per 750ml bottle.
