Die Burger Proefees
Die Burger Proefees, with a brand new focus, will be taking place at the Tyger Valley Centre in Durbanville on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July 2012.
This year, the Proefees will be experiencing an exciting revival and promises to be a top tasting event, given the high calibre of wine exhibitors, the professional organisation of the event, and the exciting new venue in the Centre.

The wine festival will be hosted in the Centre’s refurbished, spacious Arena Court, a large open focal-point, just below the Food Court and restaurants. A new lifestyle element will include live music by Placid Notes, food stands including C-Side Oysters, Redies Chinese Restaurant and Sushi Bar, and Something Different by Angie Morrison, and chill lounges where wine-lovers can relax. The wines will be on sale at special festival prices through cybercellar.com for post-festival delivery by Berco Express.

Drink and Drive support will be provided by Sober Chauffeur who provide a safe chauffeur service home in your own car for as little as R149. Or take advantage of the Special Proefees Safeway Individual package at only R199 per month. Proefees visitors can register in advance or at the Sober Chauffeur stand at the festival. To pre-register, contact Celeste Grobler on 078 002 6281 or celeste@soberchauffeur.co.za.

Approximately 40 top wineries will be showcasing their fine wines at the festival. The Durbanville Wine Valley will be grouped together in the centre island, with Altydgedacht, Bloemendal, D’Aria, De Grendel, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, Hillcrest, Klein Roosboom, Meerendal and Nitida showcasing two wines each and presenting the Valley’s unique regional dish: Lamb sosaties with pumpkin ‘stampkoring’, cumin sauce and pickle. This delicious heritage dish, which will be specially prepared by Chef Warren Swaffield of Cassia Restaurant at Nitida, pays tribute to the days when Durbanville was still a farmer’s market town known as Pampoenkraal.

Other wine exhibitors include: Beyerskloof, Boekenhoutskloof’s Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap, Bon Courage, Creation, De Krans, Delaire Graff, Elgin Vintners, Helderberg Wijnmakerij, Hermanuspietersfontein, Hidden Valley, Honey Badger, Imbuko, Jordan, Koelenhof, Krone, Leeuwenkuil, Morgenster, Muratie, Peter Brum, Pomüla, Raka, Rietvallei, Robertson Winery, Steenberg, Sumaridge, Thelema, Wandsbeck, Winters Drift and Zevenwacht.

The festival will be open from 15h00 to 20h00 on the Friday and from 12h00 to 19h00 on the Saturday. Tickets at R75 per person for wine-tasting (including a complimentary wine glass) will be on sale at Computicket and at the door. A portion of the proceeds will go towards Die Burger Kersfonds.
