Steenberg Vineyards celebrates Heritage Day with trail run
13 August 2012  by Steenberg Vineyards
Steenberg Vineyards in the Constantia Valley will celebrate Heritage Day on Monday 24 September with a day of fun-filled events for the whole family in the breathtaking setting of this working wine farm.
This year the programme of festivities will include traditional activities for what has also become known as "National Braai Day", though with a distinctly elegant Steenberg touch!

The fun starts early on the public holiday with the annual Trail Run kicking off at 08h00 along a scenic route through the vineyards. This outdoor adventure will once again attract many walkers, runners and wine enthusiasts turning out in fancy dress to spice up the occasion. Participants will have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes in the fancy dress competition, the most sought-after being the grand prize of "winning your weight in Steenberg wine" for the team or person wearing the best costume! Entrance to the Trail Run is R230 per person, which includes a donation to the SPCA, as well as a goody bag and a bottle of Klein Steenberg wine, with a choice of running either the 6.5km or 13km trail. Chef Brad Ball and his Bistro Sixteen82 team will be serving up a delicious medley of traditional dishes to complement the theme of this special day. With everything from hand-made boerewors rolls to the chef's legendary "Steenburgers" seared to perfection, available at food stalls on the lawn, guests may sit back and relax while they soak up the informal vibe and the sound of live music.

Delicious Heritage Day Picnic Baskets, brimming with traditional South African gourmet goodies, will be available by pre-order at R350 for two people. The picnic includes generous helpings of home baked whole wheat bread with West Coast snoek patè, biltong and cream cheese spread; a variety of local estate cheeses with onion marmalade; a tangy selection of free range sliced beef biltong and droëwors; and cocktail size vetkoek with bobotie style curry mince. Two wine glasses and a bottle of one of Steenberg's fine 'food' wines will also be included, as well as a decadent helping of koeksisters to round off the meal on a sweet note to complete a perfect day. Please call Lida on +27.217132211 or email to pre-book your picnic.

Says Steenberg Vineyards Sales and Marketing Manager, Anetha Homan: "We were hugely encouraged by the runaway success of our National Heritage Day activities in 2011. This year we intend to up the ante by integrating National Braai Day into the mix with a programme of festivities to welcome families and friends to the warm and relaxed ambience of our wine farm. Getting together for a good meal and a delicious glass of wine is such an integral part of our way of life in this country, and there really is nothing that kindles the bonds of friendship more than traditional South African braai fare and a glass of Steenberg wine!"
