Strike action hits the winelands
14 November 2012  by wine.co.za
Vineyards in and around the Western cape prepare themselves for strike action after the ANC promotes boycotts.
Social media is awash with information of strike action, damages and fire that is sweeping the wine industry. As of now, we are watching the news and trying desperately to decipher what is accurate so that we can best inform our readers.

A tweet was sent mentioning a fire out near Windmeul but we confirmed with Este from the winery that they are so far unharmed.

Speaking to a source at Lourensford, a large group of people are sat outside the gates barring the way and preventing people from entering and exiting. So far, they have not experienced any violence and do have police protection at this time.

Protestors are also camped outside of Fleur du Cap.

As of today (15th November) :

R317 Route has been closed between Bonnievale and Robertson due to farm protests.

Police have urged people to stay away from Bottelary road between Stellenbosch and Brackenfell as armed farm workers are out in protest.
