Although Lanzerac is the home of South African Pinotage, and has built up an enviable reputation for their Pinotage over the years, it boasts a handful of superb wines, which includes the new release 2012 Rosé, 2011 Chardonnay and 2011 Pinotage. Handcrafted and made, with passion, under the watchful eye of winemaker, Wynand Lategan, these wines have been made to enjoy throughout the year.
Perfectly suited to our lazy summer days, the Lanzerac Rosé 2012, packaged in its trademark teardrop bottle, is described as a bright pink blush colour. The nose has an array of early summer fruit such as sweet strawberries, youngberry and hints of cranberries. The palate is fresh, friendly, clean, approachable and not overpowering, but lingers with each sip. The perfect summer wine to drink chilled on its own. However, this iconic wine also works beautifully with salads, summer fruits or a light lunch such as fish or seafood. Available from retail outlets nationwide, the Lanzerac Rosé 2012 retails for approximately R53.00 per bottle.

The Lanzerac Chardonnay 2011 offers a complexity of flavours, including ripe citrus overlaid with traces of clove, ginger, butterscotch and vanilla. A full-bodied wine that can be enjoyed chilled now or will age for another two to three years in the bottle. Enjoy on its own, or with smoked salmon, white fish, creamy pasta dishes, pork or chicken. Available from retail outlets nationwide, this wine retails for approximately R92.00 per bottle.

Always bearing in mind that Lanzerac produced the first Pinotage in South Africa, Wynand takes great care in maintaining the quality this wine has become renowned for. He describes the Lanzerac Pinotage 2011 as being deep in colour, displaying aromas of ripe berries and plums, with a good mouth-feel and lingering aftertaste. With five to ten years’ maturation it will start to acquire the velvet density and luxurious chocolate and caramel flavours of its very early Lanzerac predecessors. A full-bodied, complex wine with a beautiful fruit/wood balance and a good tannin structure allowing it to age extremely well. The ideal partner to Malay curries, bobotie or venison. This iconic South African wine retails for approximately R118 per bottle, available from retail outlets nationwide.
