Pick deliciously sweet Hanepoot grapes

Hanepoot picking at De Krans
20 January 2013  by Smart Communications
During the months of February and March, De Krans Wine Cellar will once again offer visitors to the area the opportunity to pick deliciously sweet Hanepoot grapes. This fun-filled picking experience will take place from
13 February to 10 March, and will be made available every day (except Sundays) from 8am until 4pm.
Grapes cost R5.40/kg and visitors are welcome to bring their own containers. Alternatively containers can be purchased at De Krans at a minimal cost.

Picking grapes can lead to visitors working up a hefty appetite, and to cater for this need Vygieshof Home for the Aged will be offering delicious braaivleis meals on Wednesdays and Saturdays, between 11am and 2pm. As these meals have proven to be extremely popular in the past, booking is essential.

Situated in the picturesque Little Karoo town of Calitzdorp, De Krans is home to some of South Africa’s award-winning ports. Accolades include a 5-star rating for the De Krans The Last Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2010. This 5-star rating follows in the footsteps of the De Krans Espresso awarded the RX South Africa Trophy for the Most Innovative Wine in 2012, at the 2012 Michelangelo International Wine Awards, as well as De Krans winning the South African Champion Port at this year’s SA Young Wine Show, reaffirming De Krans’ position as one of South Africa’s premier port producers. Visitors to the farm are invited to sample these as well as the other ports and value-for-money wines within the range, especially the Pink Port which is the first of its kind to be launched in South Africa.

For bookings and further enquiries contact Helet or Bessie at the farm on 044 213 3314 or e-mail dekrans@mweb.co.za
