If you hold the surname Van de Merwe, like our previous news editor did, then this event is most definitely for you! From 1 - 3 March 2013 people from across South Africa will gather to honour their family name and ancestors at the Van der Merwe Festival 352 (It is 352 years since the first van der Merwe landed in the Cape). With Van der Merwe Festival – 352 we want to delve into our past and be reminded of our ancestors and give thanks to those who carved the way to where we as descendants stand today. At Van der Merwe Festival – 352 everyone is welcome – when gathered together aren’t we all van der Merwes? With food stalls, exhibitions, tours to the original family farm, a kid’s area, historical talks, a Sarel van der Merwe book signing, music performances by, among others Wicus der Merwe and a Miss Van der Merwe competition, it is a festival for the whole family.
