After a grueling eight days 1 082 riders crossed the finish line at Lourensford during the 10th Absa Cape Epic on Sunday 24 March 2013. The best stage location was won by Wellington after the entrants from 45 countries voted Wellington as their favourite town.
Kevin Vermaak lauded the effort that was made in making everyone feel welcome. Says Vermaak, founder and director of the event: "We had some of the best cyclists in mountain biking history at the event, ensuring an exciting and competitive race - twelve previous and current world champions and seven previous and current Olympic medalists participated this year. This was also the year with the largest prize purse in mountain biking history - R1,5 million."

Schalk Burger, chairman of the Mutual & Federal Agri Wellington Wine Route about the best location award: "We treasure accolades such as these, after all we are the heart of the Cape Winelands. Also on behalf of Groenberg Primêr I would like to thank you for the exceptional opportunity our school kids had with the helicopter fly past as well as the Jag Foundation rugby clinic."
