In terms of the by-law businesses with on-consumption licences such as restaurants, pubs and clubs may sell liquor from 11h00 to 23h00 in residential areas and from 11h00 to 02h00 in other areas.However restaurants and function venues on agricultural land are only allowed to sell liquor from 11h00 to 24h00.According to Danie Cronjé, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated it is expected that owners of wineries will question the fact that their businesses have shorter hours than similar businesses in town.The by-law makes provision for the sale of sparkling wine from 08h00 to 11h00 as part of a meal during an organised function in order to cater for champagne breakfasts.In terms of the bylaw supermarkets and liquor stores may sell from 08h00 to 20h00 Monday to Saturday.They may not sell on Sunday or public holidays but he by-law makes provision for businesses to apply for an extension of trading hours or an amendment of the days of trade. It is expected that some supermarkets and liquor stores will apply for an amendment in order to sell on Sunday.Wineries may sell bottled wine from 08h00 to 20h00 on any day of the week.The by-law also makes provision for a casino to sell liquor for consumption on the premises 24 hours per day seven days a week.This also applies to a hotel or function venue which forms part of the casino complex.
