The growth of off-road extreme sport is growing exponentially and finding the perfect venue remains a challenge. The Wine on the River venue on the mighty Breede River near Robertson provides the perfect spot for the Xtri-launch. In the heart of the Langeberg valley with five beautiful wine villages all within 20km from Goudmyn.
The weekend of 16/17 November sees the SA launch of the Xtri-Series in our own backyard-in the Langeberg Valley. More and more athletes are seeking off the beaten track extreme events and when they can then combine such an event with their families and friends at a great location-it all comes together as they say.

Rainer Kloos one of the owners of The Xtreme Company waxes lyrical when he describes the venue and the area. " Imagine driving for less than two hours from Cape Town, parking off along the mighty Breede river and then taking part in a world class triathlon event where the swim takes place in the river, the MTB route takes you through vineyards and Karoo veld and the trail run meanders through more vineyards, orchards and along, over and through rivers"

Then combine that with the hospitality of the locals, the organisational skills of the Robertson Wine Trust and the tourism bodies of Ashton, Robertson, Bonnievale, Montagu and McGregor and you sit with some potent magic. After all these guys organise the Whacky Wine Weekend, Wine on the River and many more great events.
Rainer adds" We are also differentiating ourselves by our central ethos of sustainable and responsible eventing and getting the whole family involved and the local community. The tannies from the NG Kerk will do the koeksisters kind of feel.

Most of the surrounding establishments are offering Xtri specials. The ERPP (Excelsior Registration Pasta party) on both evenings of 15 and 16 November allow s athletes to register and obtain their Goody bags-R39,- buys you a hearty plate of pasta and during a wine tasting of Excelsior wines you can then selsct your favourite wine to either enjoy with your meal or add to your Goody bag.

The entire programme of events appears on the website www.xtri.co.za and you can still enter. A corporate fund raiser Xtri-Lite on the Saturday morning offers wineries and businesses to challenge each other and enjoy some healthy bonding.

Each of the three Xtri legs-swimming, cycling and trail running can also be entered on an individual basis plus fun family relays.

Sunday morning it gets serious-The Xtri-Ultra that will test the fittest athletes from many parts of the land. However, they all know that at the finish line they will be warmly embraced by local hospitality.
