The winner of the 2013 Inter Hotel Challenge for budding chefs from 10 top Cape Town hotels, was Gert Böcking of the Cape Grace at the V&A Waterfront, whose winning dishes were perfectly paired with Plaisir de Merle wines.
Plaisir de Merle Sauvignon Blanc 2013Plaisir de Merle Sauvignon Blanc 2013 was served with Böcking’s saffron-scented shellfish velouté first course, followed by Plaisir de Merle Malbec 2008 and confit pork belly and braised pig’s cheek served with potato galette, red cabbage, apple purée, split pea and apple salad, caramelised apple and ginger jus. The prize-winning meal was fittingly rounded off with Plaisir de Merle Grand Brut 2010 and bruléed lemon tart, strawberry sorbet and jellies, lemon gel and strawberry and mint salsa.
