The 2014 Constantia Fresh Festival kicks off on the 21st of February with a themed tasting by sommelier Jörg Pfützner, exploring the distinctiveness of Constantia’s fine wine, while discovering and contrasting vinous offerings from other regions of South Africa and the rest of the world.

The tasting will beg the question: “If modernity is sexy, is tradition passé?”

The traditional producers for the tasting include Jamet from Cote Rotie, Henri Gouge from Burgundy, Guiseppe Rinaldi Barolo, Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Rioja Gran Reserva and Chateau Leoville Barton Bordeaux. In the modern corner we have producers like Guigal from the Rhône, Domaine Jacques Prieur Burgundy, Paolo Scavino Barolo, Chateau Lascombe Bordeaux and Numanthia from Toro.

Time: 17:30 guests will be welcomed by a glass of Constantia Méthode Cap Classique, followed by the tasting from 18:00 – 19:45

Annual Constantia Fresh Dinner
Treat your taste buds to an Al fresco four course dinner prepared by celebrated South African chef, Bertus Basson in the leafy park of historic Klein Constantia.
Expect sophisticated fare, prepared on open fires, the best local ingredients and a joyous unpretentious gathering of wine and food lovers. Dinner will be complemented with a selection of twelve of the best white, red and sweet wines the Constantia wine valley has to offer.

Guests will be welcomed with a medley of Constantia’s Méthode Cap Classiques at 19:45 with dinner commencing at 20:00.

Saturday 22 February: Constantia Fresh Fine Wine & Food Festival
Fine Wine Events once again brings you Constantia Fresh, a food and wine festival which offers the best this breathtaking and historic wine route has to offer. With the main aim of presenting and discovering fine wines, Constantia Fresh 2014 will bring the finest South African wine producers to showcase wines exhibiting that all important character, freshness.
The 2014 event takes place on February 22 from 15:00-20:00 on the lawns of Buitenverwachting Wine Estate and will present over 200 wines from a carefully selected line-up of South Africa’s best wine producers. Wine enthusiasts can wonder about the lawns of Buitenverwachting sampling fresh wines paired with canapés. Fine wine and food pairing exhibitions, as well as art, live music, live acts and performances and an antique and collectables market, where the South African lifestyle will be celebrated, will keep guests entertained between sips and mouthfuls.

This year’s festival of wine will also see some of this country’s most talented chefs preparing an array of food throughout the day. The chefs who will be cooking up a storm include Peter Tempelhoff of the Collection, Christian Harbeck, Raith Gourmet High Constantia, Bertus Basson of Overture Restaurant and Edgar Osojnik of Buitenverwachting Restaurant and Brad Ball of Steenberg’s BistroSixteen82.

Constantia Fresh, now in its fifth year running, emphasis freshness in wine and its success can be ascribed to the participant producers from the Constantia Valley, Klein Constantia, Groot Constantia, Steenberg, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Glen and Beau Constantia. From elsewhere in the winelands top wine producers such as Hamilton Russell Vineyards in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, Kleine Zalze in Stellenbosch, Paul Cluver in Elgin, Delaire Graff in Stellenbosch, Mullineux Family Vineyards from Riebeek Kasteel (Platter’s 2014 Winery of the Year) and Chamonix in Franschhoek (2013 Platter’s Winery of the Year) will also showcase their wines.

All these wines embody the unique terroir of each wine region and express that all important freshness of character. The festival will once again explore the distinctiveness of Constantia’s fine wine, while exploring and contrasting with offerings from other regions of South Africa and the rest of the world.
