The City of Cape Town has published an amended Bylaw on Liquor Trading Days and Hours which will commence on 1 February.

It will replace the existing bylaw which regulates the days and hours during which liquor may be sold by businesses in the Cape Municipality.

Wineries in the municipality currently have the right to sell bottled wine on Sunday. Once the bylaw commences they will no longer be able to do so.

The bylaw does make provision for wineries to apply for permission to sell bottled wine on a Sunday between 11h00 and 18H00.

They will also have the option to extend their trading hours on other days from 18h00 to 20H00.

According to Danie Cronje, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated a number of wineries on the Constantia Wine Route and in the Helderberg area have already indicated that they wish to apply to retain their Sunday wine sales.
