On Easter Saturday, 19 April 2014, well-known wine personality, Jeremy Hazell, will attempt to become the first person to complete the 56km Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon in his regular wheelchair, fitted only with a third accessory wheel for improved steering and manoeuvrability.
But the far more worthy goal is the R100 000 Jeremy hopes to raise for disabled children and adults. The charity beneficiaries are two NPOs which are very close to Jeremy’s heart: The Rachel Swart Fund and Senecio - both of which do tremendous work helping disabled people from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape.

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon will present Jeremy with the greatest athletic challenge he has undertaken since becoming paralysed in an accident on Table Mountain 15 years ago. Training in preparation for this event requires extreme commitment and dedication, and Jeremy hopes that this will inspire his friends and associates to make a donation, however small an amount, to these charity organisations which do such important work, giving dignity and independence to disabled people.

The Rachel Swart Fund will purchase four motorised wheelchairs. For further information on the recipients go to Access Ability recipients page.

Senecio will purchase equipment for Adaptive Surfing, as part of its Spinal Cord Injury Programme. Read more about it HERE.

You are invited to support these noble causes by making a donation, simply and securely, in one of two ways:

  • Online via Jeremy’s GivenGain Activist page.
  • By EFT using the details provided HERE.

Please spread the word to friends and associates who might want to support these worthy causes; ‘Like’ Jeremy’s Facebook page and following him on Twitter

And please look out for Jeremy on the road during the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon 2014 – and give him plenty of support and encouragement to help him reach his goal.
