The name Club Sixteen90 refers to the year of proclamation of Welmoed Estate, the home of Stellenbosch Vineyards, one of South Africa’s top wine producers. Members will be first to be invited to private wine tastings, VIP product launches and in the know of promotions of their favourite Stellenbosch Vineyards wines in their area. Club members will also receive a discount when buying wine at the Stellenbosch Vineyards Tasting Room, based at Welmoed Estate. “We wanted to offer something that has never been offered before. So we thought, hey, why not a barrel of wine?” says Johann Diedericks, Brand and Business Development Manager for South Africa, Africa and the Americas. The winner will be announced in September. With the help of the winemaker, the winner will have the chance to blend his or her own barrel of wine, which will be bottled and delivered to the winner’s home by June 2015. Last year Stellenbosch Vineyards launched the award winning Credo wines, which had wine judges, locally and internationally, take note. In the same year they also launched the innovative new Arniston Bay Infusions, a wine based taste infusion that created quite an interest from consumers looking for something fresh, bubbly and fruity. Also known for other international successes, such as Welmoed, Arniston Bay and Versus, they plan to launch two new wine ranges before the end of this year. Diedericks said: “There’s a lot happening at Stellenbosch Vineyards. Not only are we planning to launch incredible wines, but we are busy renovating our tasting room and restaurant on Welmoed Estate, which will give visitors a whole new experience when tasting our award winning wines.
