World-class cuisine matched with superb wines served in a magnificent wilderness setting, sets the scene for the last of the popular Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat Food & Wine Weekends this winter.
Talented Executive Chef Floris Smith will be teaming up with winemaker JD Pretorius of Steenberg Vineyards in the Constantia Wine Valley to present an inspired food and wine collaboration on 22 and 23 August 2014.
Guests can look forward to a weekend of epicurean delight at the award-winning Relais & Châteaux lodge that includes special presentations, talks and tastings, nature drives, rock art excursions, and a host of other lodge activities. Rates start from R2270 per person sharing per night and all meals and lodge activities are included, including Steenberg wines with the Saturday night dinner. Daily High Tea and guided visits to rock art sites out on the reserve are just some of the other highlights to look forward to each day, with the food and wine pairing dinner on Saturday night taking centre stage.
Steenberg holds the distinction of being the oldest farm in the picturesque Constantia Valley. With its cool, sea-facing slopes and majestic granite ridges, this vineyard has developed a worldwide reputation for producing excellent Cape wines. The estate boasts a state of the art modern winery, producing some of the country’s finest award-winning wines. Winemaker JD Pretorius sets out to make wines that are elegant and balanced with great ageing potential, and believes that the fruit should always play the leading role in wine, with everything else a supporting act. His celebrated Sauvignon Blancs and white blends are acknowledged as some of the best in South Africa.
Late August heralds the beginning of the flower season in the Cederberg, when the annual spring flower spectacle transforms the surrounding landscape into a rainbow collection of colour. Chef Floris has placed the lodge firmly on the Western Cape’s map of top gourmet destinations with his creative menus that highlight the flavours and shades of the surrounding landscape. His authentic Cape cuisine captures the essence of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and his cuisine reflects the finest quality natural ingredients, many of which are harvested daily from Bushmans Kloof’s own organic garden. These indigenous herbs, fruit and vegetables will be in the spotlight during especially at the six-course dinner that will be masterfully matched with selected Steenberg vintages.
Set among wide open plains, majestic rock formations and crystal clear waterfalls, Bushmans Kloof is an authentic wilderness destination of ancient and untamed beauty.
