Bistro13
Nic’s classical training and experience with Franck Dangereux at La Colombe, and his success with Terroir restaurant, are brilliantly evident in Bistro13’s menu and restaurant philosophy. He is aptly assisted by his right-hand man, Juan van Zyl, previously sous chef at Rust and Vrede.

Prices
The breakfast menu averages at only R70 per head. A three course menu averages in at R220, while the ten course tasting menu, which is reserved for 20 guests per evening, is R260. The tasting menu, called The Naked Menu, will showcase elements of the a la carte menu, but prepared in a simple way to bring out the individual flavours, or paired with a complementing element, like a sauce or flavour. “The average palate can identify about five flavours at a time. I want this menu to be education as much as it is fun,” says Nic.

Bring the kids along
We know that parents who'd like to dine out are sometimes limited in their choices - Bistro 13 offers something perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and still ticks the boxes for a sophisticated night out.

The restaurant is child friendly, with lots of open grass and a dream-catcher jungle gym coming in October. The Munchkin Menu has healthy kids options, such as chicken and broccoli bake, sausage with mash and peas, and fish fingers with ‘green’ (courgette) fries – all served on colourful plates. Ice cream sandwiches and strawberries with white chocolate sauce should keep them happy too.

Don’t leave without...
...treating yourself to a well-deserved glass of wine, relaxing in a comfortable chair either by the fire, or outside enjoying the sunshine. Taste the diverse portfolio of award-winning wines, most notably the double gold Veritas winner the Credo Chenin Blanc 2010. The restaurant will supply light snack platters for peckish wine-tasters, and coffee, tea and soft drinks are also available as non-alcoholic options.

The tasting fee is R30 for five wines - and you are spoilt for choice on a selection of Credo, Stellenbosch Vineyards, Four Secrets and Welmoed.
