KWV strengthened its position as South Africa’s leading producer of quality wines and spirits with an impressive haul of medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. Results were announced on September 10th, at the Wines of the Beautiful South exhibition in London.
KWV bagged a Gold Outstanding (for Abraham Perold Tributum 2010) and two golds; 22 medals in total, the most for any SA producer.

KWV The Mentors Noble Late Harvest 2012 and KWV The Mentors Sauvignon blanc/Semillon 2013 both received Gold Medals at this prestigious competition.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind in the world. All entries are tasted blind in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary.

“South Africa has done extremely well in this year’s Beautiful South results. The IWSC hosted showcases in South Africa and South America earlier this year, and the level of wines highlighted was very high. Looking at the results as a whole, it was interesting to see that 2013 vintages were the strongest in this year’s competition,” commented IWSC General Manager, Ewan Lacy.

The Paarl based wine and spirit producer is currently enjoying a wealth of national and international recognition;
- Its brand status moved from 35th to 32nd place in the Drinks International rankings, leading all other South African wine brands.
- KWV has won 6 trophy classes and a gold medal at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2014. This includes the Fairbairn Capital Trophy for the Most Successful Producer.
- KWV re-wrote the record books by being named Best Producer at Veritas 2013, the Oscars of South African wine, for the third consecutive year.
- KWV’s 12 year Barrel Select Brandy was named Worldwide Best Brandy, winning the 2014 Worldwide Brandy Trophy Award at the recent International Wine & Spirit Competition.
- KWV 20 Year Old was named South Africa’s best brandy by the South African Wine Index (SAWi).
- KWV received three regional trophies at Decanter. KWV was named Best Regional Producer at the SA Young Wine Show.
