The annual Nederburg Auction, now in its 40th year, took place at the famous Nederburg Estate in Paarl, Western Cape, where hand-picked exclusive wines from South Africa’s top estates were auctioned.Checkers bid on some of the country’s finest wines and because they are one of the largest buyers at the event, Checkers are able to bring its customers a collection of rare and limited edition premium wines at the same price as was paid for them. The Nederburg Auction is one of the world’s five major wine auctions, alongside the auctions of Hospice de Beaune in France and Kloster Eberbach in Germany. Each of the 112 wines that were sold at the 2014 Nederburg Auction has earned the Auction’s Seal of Approval, which is affixed to each bottle as a mark of quality and authenticity. This golden seal is an endorsement and a reassurance that these wines represent the pinnacle of rare, properly matured, fine South African wines. Chosen from 300 wines by an accomplished panel of judges, each wine that makes it into the final Nederburg Auction collection is tasted blind and scored out of 20 before final results are audited.
