School holidays are here! Running out of ideas on how to keep the family and kids entertained? Bring them to Franschhoek for a fun-filled day out.

Something sweet is always a treat. The world famous Huguenot Fine Chocolates is pure chocolate heaven and a delight for young and old! Indulge in a chocolate tour with the highlight being a chocolate making demo and tasting. Yum!

With everything in bloom and looking sparkling new a picnic is a must on your list of things to do.

The hop-on hop-off Franschhoek Wine Tram will keep the little ones enthralled as you discover the true essence of the valley. Vineyards, scenery, warm hospitality, delicious cuisine and superb wines. If this tram was a winner why not experience another one at Anthonij Rupert Wyne and L’Ormarins allowing visitors the opportunity to experience both farms on the San Francisco inspired trams.

If you’re looking for a great time outdoors Franschhoek has numerous cycling routes available in and around the area. Routes perfectly suited for the whole family. Bring along your bike or hire one through Franschhoek Cycles. Horse riding is also a popular activity, which can be arranged through the Cape Winelands Riding and Paradise Stables. Are the kids into hiking? The Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve is perfect. Explore the fynbos along the mountain trails, and spot a baboon or two along the way. If you prefer a more relaxing walk the garden tour at Babylonstoren is where you want to be. The kids will have a ball exploring the garden whilst munching off fruit they’ve picked themselves. Educational and fun all in one!

The Franschhoek Motor Museum at L’Ormarins is the perfect father and son outing. The museum is home to a wide selection of vintage and exotic cars, motorcycles, bicycles and memorabilia. A car enthusiast’s dream.

The Museum van de Caab at Solms-Delta Wine Estate highlights Franschhoek’s history dating back from the Stone Age, the slave history of the farm, as well as recordings of the San people talking and singing. Loads of fun.

Wine tasting and family fun? Family friendly wineries include Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards, Noble Hill, La Petite Ferme, Backsberg and Môreson. Enjoy a wine tasting while the kids have fun exploring the outdoors in a secure environment. Afterwards enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant, ideally suited to the whole family.
