Cape Legends
The wines of Distell’s Cape Legends portfolio have established a large following thanks to their quality and value for money, and they have again proved their worth at the 2014 Veritas Awards by scooping a double gold and 11 gold medals.
The double gold went to Lomond’s 2013 Cape Agulhas SMV – its maiden vintage and a blend of shiraz, mourvèdre and viognier, with five gold medals going to Neethlingshof, two for Uitkyk and Durbanville Hills, and one for Zonnebloem and Lomond.

The gold medal-winning Neethlingshof wines were the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, The Short Story Collection Maria NLH 2014, and three Museum Class wines, 2009 Gewürztraminer, 2004 Lord Neethling Pinotage and the 2009 The Short Story Collection Maria NLH. The other gold awards went to Uitkyk’s 2009 Chardonnay and 2004 Carlonet Cabernet Sauvignon, both awarded in the Museum Class category. Lomond’s Cape Agulhas Conebush Syrah 2011, Zonnebloem’s 2014 Sauvignon Blanc Limited Edition, the 2014 Durbanville Hills Rhinofields Sauvignon Blanc, and the Durbanville Hills Luipardsberg Merlot 2011 were all awarded gold medals

“This excellent performance of our wines yet again proves the versatility of the Cape Legends portfolio,” says Ross Sleet, marketing director. “Not only did our younger vintages do exceptionally well, but we’re also very pleased with the performance of some of our older wines. Cape Legends wines appeal to a wide audience and we are proud not only of their medal haul, but also of the fact that we are able to present to the South African wine loving public, such a diverse range of award-winning wines - wines of quality, character and enjoyment. Congratulations to all the winemakers and their teams for producing an excellent set of results at this competition.
