“Three
of Platter’s pinnacle 5-Star ratings is no mean feat for a small wine growing area
like ours, most notably receiving two out of the four Chardonnay 5-Star ratings
and one out of eight 5-Star ratings for White Blends”, commented a
delighted Kevin King, Chairman of the Elgin Valley Wine Guild.
The three Elgin Valley wines honoured at
the Platter’s awards ceremony are:

Kershaw Elgin Clonal Selection Chardonnay 2013
"For many years I had a dream of moving to Elgin
to produce clonally selected, site-specific, cool climate wines. Having made it
a reality in 2012, and to be rewarded with 5 Stars for my debut 2012
Chardonnay, was a strong confirmation of my decision. The challenge is always
to be able to produce the next vintage to the same standard, and that is why I
am thrilled to receive 5 Stars for my 2013 Kershaw Elgin Chardonnay.”

Oak Valley Mountain Reserve White Blend 2010
“We’re absolutely thrilled with our 5-Star rating for
the Oak Valley Mountain Reserve White Blend 2010. Again, it showcases the
versatility of Elgin’s terroir, a region that produces some of SA’s best
examples of Chardonnay and Pinot, yet also performs exceptionally well with
classic Bordeaux blends. The 2010 blend comprises 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20%
Semillon, with the Semillon component undergoing a natural fermentation in
French oak.”
