Led by the award-winning chef Henrico Grobbelaar, Equus at Cavalli is situated on a beautiful estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, that manages to fuse the love of horses, wine and fine dining to create an unique destination.
The space is characterised by striking design elements featuring a custom-designed bar clad in copper, palm swivel chair by Arper and locally manufactured oak tables. The attention to detail extends from the stunning lighting by Italian specialists Marset and Foscarini, to the crockery by Cape Town ceramicist Diana Ferreira. “The primarily stone, steel and glass architecture sets itself against elements of timber, copper and mock tan leather which serve to warm and soften the space,” says Lauren Smith, MD of Cavalli Estate. “The priority is to elevate the architecture through interiors that are comfortable, practical but still imbue the space with a sense of luxuriousness that is never ostentatious.”
The building which integrates and celebrates the beauty of the Cape Floral Kingdom, is also a pilot project with the Green Building Council of South Africa to become the country’s first Green Star Restaurant. “It’s been a long term dream to win the Boschendal Style Award and to have our establishment endorsed for its design is incredibly rewarding.
