Boschendal Wines has experienced an exceptional 2014 thanks in no small part to a trio of wines, the Cecil John Reserve Shiraz 2012, the Reserve Collection Grand Reserve and the 1685 S&M Shiraz Mourvedre 2012, which impressed judges at home and abroad.

The Cecil John Reserve Shiraz 2012, one of Boschendal’s jewels, was given a sought after 5 Star rating by the influential Platter’s Wine Guide 2015 and a listing among the Top 100 South African Wines.

The 1685 S&M 2012, awarded Double Gold at Veritas and named among the Top 4 Blends at the Shiraz SA Wine Challenge, proved extremely popular with judges in the USA where it was awarded Double Gold and named Best “Other Red Wine” of the show by the Wine & Spirit Wholesalers of America. While the Reserve Collection Grande Reserve 2012, a sumptuous blend of 70% Shiraz and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, excelled at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards where it was awarded Double Gold. Boschendal also unveiled an Appellation Series of wines in 2014, crafted from grapes sourced in Elgin.

The Chardonnay was named among the Best Imported White Wine Top 10 at Expovinis Brazil, with the Sauvignon Blanc awarded Gold at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and rated 90 points by Wine Spectator. The Boschendal Brut Pinot Noir Chardonnay won Gold at Effervescents du Monde, the international competition for the best sparkling wines in the world, held annually in France.

There is also welcome news for budget-conscious wine lovers with Veritas Gold awarded to the Rachel's Chenin Blanc 2013 and the Lanoy Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2012. While the Lanoy Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2012 and Larone Shiraz Mourvedre 2012 were awarded Gold at Mundus Vini in Germany.

These wines are part of Boschendal’s Classics Range which retail for between R35 for the whites and R49 per bottle for the reds. “Boschendal is well known for our Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, so we are very proud that our reds, especially our Shiraz wines, are coming to the fore and their quality is being recognised around the world," said Jacques Roux, Marketing Director Wine DGB.
