One
of the attractions not be missed by mountain bike enthusiasts is the inaugural
Paardeberg MTB Funride to be hosted by Dirtopia. Riders can choose
between a 16km and a 36km both starting and finishing at Perdeberg winery.
According
to Meurant Botha of Dirtopia, the 16km route offers easy, open riding with
beautiful vistas of the winelands. The route mostly runs through open veld and
vineyards with a short distance on district road. The 36km route
sets out with the 16km, but then follows a few long, gradual climbs with the
most southern part of the route sporting views over the Durbanville farms and
Table Mountain.
Registration
opens at 07h00 and the starting times are 08h15 for long distance and 08h30 for
shorter distance. Entry fees are R130 for the 15km and R150 for the 35km with a
R20 discount for tag holders. Timing will be done by Amarider Trail
Tag and results will be available on www.dirtopia.co.za. Lucky draw
prizes include a selection of Perdeberg wines as well as a Giant Simple Single
bike.
GREAT ENTERTAINMENT FOR YOUNG AND OLD AT OMMIBERG
The
popular Paarl Wine Route is gearing up for the annual OmmiBerg Round the Rock
festival this weekend. On Saturday, 7 March participating members will be
hosting a jam-packed programme featuring young wine tastings, harvest
activities, special entertainment for kids, wine promotions and great
entertainment.
The
line-up of great performers at the different farms include Newton & Co and
Andriette Norman at Boland Cellar, Idols contestant Lize Mynhardt at KWV, Slow Jack at Laborie, Mario
Arnolds on saxophone at Landskroon, 5th Avenue and Mark Haze at
Nederburg Wines, Hilandi du Toit and Friends at Olsen Private Vineyards, Nic Stephens and Viljoen
Retief at Perdeberg Cellar, Tequila & Asweeta at Rhebokskloof, Die Broers and Chris Else as well as DJ Chopper at Windmeul
Cellar.
Harvest
season is a special time in this award-winning wine region and each farm will
also host special harvest activities to give visitors a glimpse into the magic
of winemaking. Wine lovers can taste the young, unfiltered wines from the
2015 harvest, while fun activities will entertain the whole family.
Grape
Games, tractor and trailer rides through the vines, grape stomping, guided
cellar tours and barrel tastings, blending competitions, cork spitting, wine
barrel golf challenge, boules, jenga or croquet as well as vineyard horse
rides, trail runs and mountain bike and quad bike trails are the core
ingredients for a fun-filled day.
To
ensure that the whole family can participate in this fabulous outing, each farm
has organised specific child-friendly activities. Kids can take their
pick from petting zoos, junior cheese master classes, traditional kids’ games,
jumping castles, water slides, pony rides, gaming stations for teens and
creative corners for the arty ones.
