Doolhof
Doolhof Wine Estate, near Wellington, is proud to announce the launch of their first Single Vineyard Collection wines, a 2012 Cabernet Franc and a Pinotage form the 2013 vintage. These wines form part of the Doolhof Signatures wine range, a collection of single varietal estate wines.

‘With the release of our Single Vineyard Collection wines, we take pride in the years past of producing consistent quality from these parcels of vineyard on the Estate. We have identified these two special areas in the vineyard and followed their progress carefully to ensure we can confidently follow up on our promise to our valued followers with wine of exceptional distinction that is unmistakeably Doolhof characteristic wines. We are in the progress of experimenting with other parcels of vineyard on the estate as well and there will be more surprises to come in the near future. ’ Says Gielie Beukes, Doolhof winemaker.

The Cabernet Franc was first released in 2009 and the Pinotage in 2005. Both wines sell for R129 form the cellar door.

The Cabernet Franc is planted on an east facing slope in an east west direction and yields a small and concentrated crop lending us the opportunity to make an expressive and bold varietal wine. These vines are 9 years old now.

The Pinotage is situated right at the top of the farm at altitude on a northwest slope in an east west direction and at the age of 18 years are producing some of the best fruit yet to date. We achieve early ripeness due to good sunlight exposure this high in the valley thus ensuring an elegant and fruit driven resulting wine.

South African labelling law focus largely on geographical origins, falling under the purview of the "Wine of Origin" legislation. Single vineyard designated wine can be produced, provided that the vineyard is registered with the government and all the grapes used in the production of the wine was grown in that specific vineyard.
