The Oldenburg Vineyards Syrah 2012 received a gold
medal and the Stellenbosch Syrah Trophy as well as the overall South African Syrah
Trophy. The Chenin Blanc 2013 won a
gold medal and a regional Trophy.
The recent significant awards follow shortly after
the success gained for its Syrah 2012, Cabernet Franc 2012, and Merlot 2012 at
the South African Top 100 competition. Oldenburg’s wines are one of the most
frequent winners in the Top 100, a competition judged by a selection of
respected international wine critics. The Chenin Blanc 2013 had also won the
International Trophy in 2014 for the best Chenin Blanc at the IWSC. Oldenburg
Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 gained the first Platter Five Star award for
the Estate in late 2014. The Oldenburg Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Syrah have
recently been served on various routes of British Airways Business Class and
the Syrah on ANA First Class.
Adrian Vanderspuy, proprietor of Oldenburg notes, “All of our wines
have been made from vineyards that are younger than seven years old – an age
generally recognised within the industry to be when vines begin to become of
age. We believe that this points to the outstanding potential offered by
Oldenburg’s particular location – excellent soils, higher elevation and
proximity to cool mountain breezes in summer, amongst other factors. We are
extremely excited to be building on these early successes but in reality feel
we are only just getting started!”
Philip Costandius,
Oldenburg’s winemaker and general manager comments, “Oldenburg began its new
journey in 2003 and has built a very strong foundation, proving it has unique
terroir capable of producing distinctive and excellent wines. Oldenburg has
come a long way in a very short period of time, our vision is to become a
leading, respected, wine brand”, said Philip.
Oldenburg Vineyards is a boutique
premium wine producer in the Banghoek Valley, outside of Stellenbosch. It aims
to handcraft some of the finest and most respected wines. Since its renewal
programme began in 2003, it has completely replanted all the vineyards. Their
maiden vintages of red wines were released in 2010, and were all selected for
the SA Top 100 Wines, amongst other awards. In 2011 Oldenburg opened its Cellar
Door and in September 2014 it opened The Homestead, a luxury villa rental
accommodation offering.
