Pongrácz, South Africa’s leading Méthode Cap Classique, has triumphed as the top MCC in the 2015 South African Wine Index (SAWi) Awards with its signature prestige cuvée, Desiderius.

Scoring 95.5 points out of 100, Desiderius was one of only 60 wines qualifying for the coveted Platinum category.

SAWi acknowledges individual wines that stand out in leading local and international wine awards, and is calculated according to the combined results a particular wine has achieved over a few vintages covering a minimum of three years in any of 84 different competitions, reviews and listings.

Pongrácz Desiderius has a fine track record at local and international awards including Double Gold at the Six Nations Wine Challenge 2013 and the trophy for best bottle fermented sparkling wine at the 2012 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).

Crafted from only the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, Desiderius in its distinctive fluted bottle is alluring with rich complexity and a fine mousse with a raciness on the palate.

Desiderius owes its definitive character and persistent bead to the prolonged maturation of at least four years on the lees (spent yeast cells). As this Cap Classique matures further it continues to develop its wonderful creamy, nutty character and full- bodied texture which lingers for ages on the palate.

This signature Pongrácz is the ultimate pairing with fresh oysters, smoked salmon and steamed mussels. Desiderius Pongrácz 2008 is available at all leading boutique wine stores at around R360 per bottle. It can also be ordered online at www.vinoteque.co.za.
