"We are proud to have met their stringent set of criteria,” says Creation marketing director, Carolyn Martin, explaining that the CVC’s criteria comprise among others an independent audit and evaluation of technical and environmental standards, cellar door facilities, ethical matters and wine quality.
In line with the CVC’s
vision ‘to express the diversity of the Cape Winelands through distinctive site-specific
estate wines that capture the natural beauty of the environment in which they
are grown’, Creation cellarmaster Jean-Claude (JC) Martin’s philosophy is to ‘enhance the beauty of nature’. The Swiss-born JC
completed his viticultural studies in 1991 at Wädenswil and then went on to qualify
as a winemaker at the Swiss Federal School of Changins in 1995. These
qualifications provided what he still regards to be a firm and ideal grounding:
viticulture first, then winemaking.
To quote JC: “Nature creates
her own beautiful expressions in colour, texture, flavour, shape, weight,
quality, complexity and balance. When you are harvesting quality fruit it is
not necessary to manipulate the wine. Rather guide it gently through the
winemaking process so as to preserve the sense of place.”
“The
Cape Vintner Classification is a symbol of quality for world-class Cape wines
and at Creation we welcome this distinction,” he commented.
