The 2014
Pinotage, one of four wines named after the Nguni cow Survivor, pays
tribute to this remarkable lady who was born in July
2007 and accidently found her way to Constantia,
a farm situated in the beautiful Swartland
area, by jumping truck as she passed by. She landedright
in the middle of the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyardand miraculously
survived her injuries. Hence this tribute to this extraordinary cow, as well as
the generous spirit and unique terroir of the Swartland, where the grapes were
sourced from.
Says
Overhex red winemaker, Willie Malan, “The aim of this prestigious annual
competition is to identify ten Pinotage wines which will serve
as a benchmark for the development of distinctive South African
Pinotage and illustrate the uniqueness of Pinotage in the international wine
world. We are extremely excited and proud that we have done just that with
this Pinotage.”
The full-bodied barrel-matured 2014 Survivor Pinotage shows
hearty fruit flavours like prune, plum and cherrywith delightful
notes of spice and cedar and will complement various dishes from sweet
barbeque ribs to boerewors, roast chicken and even Gouda cheese.
The 2014
Survivor Pinotage sell for R125 from the cellar.
