In its fourth year, the #GugsFest will take place at the Gugulethu Sports Stadium, NY 49, from 3pm to 9pm on Friday and Saturday and 3pm until 7pm on Sunday.

This is a unique and vibrant food, drink and music festival happening in the heart of Gugulethu, Cape Town.

With over 60 wines to taste from some of South Africa’s best loved wine brands including Drostdy-Hof, Two Oceans, Orange River, Slanghoek, Stellenbosch Vineyards and Township Winery, festival goers will be spoilt for choice.

Sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey, Absolut Vodka, Mumm Champagne, Castle, Coca Cola, Rose Rocks and BOS, the festival promotes responsible drinking.

The event organisers acknowledged the issue of alcohol abuse and have the following programme;

1. Strictly over 18’s allowed into the event.

2. Wine samples to be limited to 10.

3. Drinks have to be paid for.

4. No drink to be brought onto the site

5. No open containers to leave the site

“We are also partnering with a suitable drink/drive company, in order to get inebriated drivers and their cars home safely” said Lungile Mbalo, #GugsFest rights holder.

Tickets for the #GugsFest are up for grabs, people stand a chance to win single and double general passes and VIP tickets.

“We are currently running ticket give away competitions on our social media pages” said Fundiswa Singiswa event marketing; “People can win randomly, spot themselves in our previous event pictures or simply take a selfie standing next to our posters found in and around Gugulethu” she said.

Ticket give away competitions will run until November 5.

The event organisers will be ploughing 15% of the profits back into an upliftment programme to train young people in the wine industry.

“We will also be using trainees from the Pinotage Youth Development Academy at the event. Each trainee will receive a merit certificate of accomplishment, and we will make a donation to the academy” Mbalo continued.
