Morgenster
Winemaker Henry Kotzé says that both cultivars were picked in the same week, three days apart, early in the morning and bunch pressed. The wine was 10 months in barrel, 25% being new oak, and bottled on 20th of April 2015. While it is ready to drink now, Kotzé says it will continue to develop and be a great partner to Morgenster red blend in terms of age-ability.
On the nose the wine is ripe and fresh with notes of verbena, white peach, apricot and jasmine, followed by pineapple, orange flower and stone fruit. The palate displays well integrated oaking with balanced ripeness and minerality and melt in the mouth acidity.
Food pairings include salmon, seared tuna, grilled fish, sushi, mussels cooked in white wine and oysters. Pasta and pesto or mixed salads also pair well.
Available from selected outlets and Morgenster. Ex cellar door price is R209.
