What do South Africans want to drink? Where should we export our wines to? How does the industry fast-track transformation? The South African wine and brandy industry will unpack these and other game changers that hold the potential to take it to the next level at the annual Nedbank VinPro Information Day.

The event will take place on 21 January 2016 from 09:00 to 15:00 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

An overview of the wine industry landscape will include the following:

  • South Africa’s economy – Isaac Matshego, Nedbank
  • 2016 season and harvest expectations – Francois Viljoen, VinPro
  • Realities facing producers and wineries – Christo Conradie, VinPro

Looking ahead, a session will be dedicated to three key aspects of the Wine Industry Strategic Exercise (Wise), through which a new strategic framework is being formalised for the industry. These include:

  • Establishing Brand SA, with a focused local marketing strategy – Nicky van Hille, The Moss Group and Craig Irving, Consumer Insights Agency
  • Taking transformation forward – David Venter, Infostrat
  • Growing wine globally, an international perspective – Jane Robertson, Accolade

At business level, strategic advisor and former CEO of Sanlam, Johan van Zyl, will talk about managing change in order to grow.

The 2016 conference marks Nedbank Business Banking’s tenth year as main sponsor. Old Mutual and Mutual & Federal are involved as co-sponsors for the first time.

Daneel Rossouw, Nedbank Divisional Manager of Agriculture in the Western Cape says, “Nedbank is committed to partnering with the country’s wine industry, particularly VinPro as the bank appreciates the critical role it plays in generating sustainable economic growth, social upliftment and job creation.”

“Our involvement in the VinPro 2016 initiative encompasses sponsorship since 2007, aimed at providing a platform that delivers networking opportunities and cutting edge industry insights from local and global leading experts for small, medium and large enterprises.”
