Avontuur Estate
What a start to the year when Avontuur-bred gelding Legal Eagle won the Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth in CapeTown decisively against some of the best milers in South Africa on the 9th of January. As GM Pippa Mickleburghsaid; “This moment is every breeder’s dream!

There might be more famous races in South Africa, but this is a classic and the win was a much desired feather in our cap. With 13 Yearlings ready to go off to the Cape Premier Sale on 21 and 22 January, it’s a huge boost for Avontuur’s reputation, and we want to thank the owners, trainer and jockey for a great job done!”

2016 HARVEST STARTS EARLY
Last year’s shockingly early harvest seems set to be even earlier this year, with Jan van Rooyen planning to hit the vineyards this Wednesday for the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir earmarked for our MCC. “Anyone who doesn’t believe that the planet is heating up, will be proven wrong as we are starting two days earlier again, ” says Jan. “The vineyards are healthy and and we look forward to a fully ripe harvest, whilst taking into account that this fast ripening process will demand much input from the viti and vini teams teams till early April,” he cautions. Read more about the harvest expectations in Jan’s blog on our website.
