Stellenbosch Wine Festival
The 2016 Stellenbosch Wine Festival presented by Pick n Pay offers the unique opportunity to experience some of the country’s finest wines and best food offerings – all in one place.

The Festival, which takes place over three days from 5 to 7 February, in a glorious setting at the Coetzenburg Sports Grounds, is set to be the best yet, with close on 90 wineries participating, many of them award-winning.

The food offering this year too is better than ever.  The Gourmet Lane promises to be a veritable feast with local restaurants going all out to impress with their signature dishes. 96 Winery Road will tempt you with their Wagyu beef sliders, exotic mushroom pies and pulled pork spring rolls. If you prefer to turn up the heat, head directly to Dos Childo for authentic Mexican treats such as tacos, nachos, Jalapeno poppers and churros.  If mid-European flavours are more your style, then you’ll love Piroschka’s Kitchen for the Tarte Flambé and Flammkuchen.

Craving a taste of the Med? Eaglevlei’s moreish Greek meatballs and pitas will definitely do the trick. Meat lovers won’t be left wanting at the Charcuterie, which will have on offer delicious platters of cured meats, cheeses and paninis. Still can’t decide? Then grab a scrumptious gourmet wrap, courtesy of Vagabond Kitchens. Of course we like to keep things local too, so there will be plenty of yummy biltong and droëwors available at the PnP biltong stand.

And of course summer wouldn’t be the same without bubbly and oysters so make sure you start or end off your day at the Pick n Pay oyster bar!

We haven’t forgotten about our little visitors – at the Flavours of Pick n Pay you’ll find a range of boerewors rolls, wraps, beef mince vetkoek, chicken skewers and a selection of salads. Soft drinks and snacks will also be available.

Join us for the food-and-wine pairings in the Tasting Room, where daily sessions will be presented by celebrated winemakers and chefs. Each winemaker will pair three of their wines with delectable bite-sized treats. Look forward to spectacular taste sensations, with pairings ranging from Pinotage with venison, Shiraz and chocolate truffle to Chenin Blanc with poached pineapple and Zinfandel with duck paté. Participating farms include Spier, Villiera, Kleine Zalze, Waterford Estate, L’Avenir, Blaauwklippen, Mooiplaas, Kaapzicht, Ernie Els Wines and Waterkloof. Each session accommodates 40 guests and lasts half an hour. Bookings for these hugely popular sessions must be made beforehand at the venue and cost R25 per person – smart shopper cardholders enter free of charge.

And when it comes to wine-tasting, we have little doubt that you’ll want to taste more of your favourites, and you’ll be able to do exactly that while relaxing at the Pick n Pay bar, where you can order by the glass or by the bottle.  As always, the Pick n Pay wine shop will be on-site selling all the Festival’s wines at excellent prices.

For extra peace of mind for parents, Momentum will have a supervised dedicated Health Kiddies Area so your little ones will be entertained and taken care of throughout your stay, while you relax and enjoy all that’s on offer.

Daily festival tickets cost R180 for adults and include a tasting glass. Tickets are available online from www.webtickets.co.za. Children under 18 enter free. Festival opening times are as follows:  Friday from 15h00-21h00, Saturday and Sunday from 10h00-18h00.
