Want to know how to change your Valentine’s Day surprise from good to great? Take the advice of the 19th century Romantics and embrace nature. Far from stuffy, the movement’s hallmarks were love and appreciation of the glorious outdoors, and you can make it happen today wherever you are, with Tangled Tree wine.

Whether you’re outside or indoors, Tangled Tree puts all that is good and natural right in your glass. It’s the perfect ingredient for any a romantic occasion be it a picnic by a river; on a hilltop with a view; or, under a shady tree in your own backyard – because the story of Tangled Tree is a story of love itself.

The actual “tangled tree” stands in the garden at Van Loveren Family Vineyards near Robertson, where the wine is made. In 1941, Jean Retief ordered a Rhus Lancea tree from KwaZulu-Natal. Her husband Hennie was convinced it was no different from the Karee that grew along their river and so he planted a shoot next to hers. The pair turned out to be identical and have since intertwined to make one magnificent tree that Jean always regarded as a symbol of their love.

The tale inspired Tangled Tree, a tribute to both love and nature, and the source of delicious wines you can enjoy completely guilt-free.

Tangled Tree wines are sold in eco-friendly PET bottles with PET labels, both completely recyclable along with the cartons they’re transported in. The bottles also have a carbon footprint 75% lighter than the alternatives.

The eco-friendly PET bottle is also gentle on the purse, lightweight to carry and safe to pack for any outdoors excursion, Tangled Tree loves travelling!

The respect that goes into making Tangled Tree extends of course to the contents of each superlative wine, too. The gifts presented to us in the vineyard every harvest are gently ushered into the bottle, with only the slightest influence of our winemaker. The result is wine that is generous in flavour, bold and as easy to fall in love with.

The eco-friendly Tangled Tree has a wine for every mood. The Tropical Sauvignon Blanc has crisp notes of guava, melon and gooseberry; Butterscotch Chardonnay tastes of crème brûlée and a touch of fruit;  Moscato Rosé has aromas and flavours reminiscent of rose blooms; Spicy Shiraz exudes smooth berry notes and integrated spice; and, Chocolate Cabernet Sauvignon will remind you of chocolate and mocha, cassis and blackberries.

Next time you’re in the area, visit Van Loveren for wine or one of the many outdoor acitivities hosted on the farm. You might even want to come for Valentine’s Day to try the special Chocolate and Wine food pairing experience!
