Leopard's Leap
Graham Dukas, a passionate writer from Cape Town was selected from 794 entries for the clever way in which he combined Words and Wine in haiku format.
“There’s much to be said
about wine, but nothing to
describe the last drop.”
The three judges, Leopard's Leap CEO Hein Koegelenberg and acclaimed writers, Roché Kester and Rebecca Davis, enjoyed the playfulness of the haiku as well as how it captured the essence of both wine and words.
Hein Koegelenberg: “Leopard's Leap’s support of the Open Book Festival comes from our passion for literature and with the Words and Wine competition, we were able to combine the two in a very creative way through the stand-out entries received! Thank you to all the enthusiastic entrants. Some haikus were inspirational, others fun and others philosophic, but they all made us appreciate the intricate beauty of both words and wine! Congratulations to Graham, we are delighted to use your haiku on our back label copy for the 2015 Leopard's Leap Merlot and to supply you with wine for a whole year!”
Dukas wins a cash prize of R5 000, 12 cases of wine labelled with his winning haiku, a R500 Book Lounge voucher, passes to the Open Book Festival and the joy to see his words displayed at Leopard's Leap Family vineyards in Franschhoek as well as on city lamp posts and Open Book Festival venues for the duration of the festival.
