Peter Falke Wines is situated on the Annandale Road in the foothills of the Helderberg, a Stellenbosch Wine Appellation marker for excellent wines. The farm is known as Groenvlei and there are always exciting happenings there.

There are still have tickets available for An Afternoon of Jazz at Peter Falke Wines on Saturday 24 September. Last month’s event sold out quickly, so be sure to purchase yours quickly to avoid disappointment. The estate has three seating options available. 24 September is also National Braai Day, so why not enjoy two relaxing hours of jazz with us on the lawns and then head home with your favourite Peter Falke wines for the evening braai? We have done this and it is huge fun. The food is fresh and crisp and clean flavoured with cheese platter options, cheese nachos, salads and soups, meat  dishes, charcuterie platters, smoked chicken, a selection of ice cream desserts.

The Peter Falke PF Sauvignon Blanc 2016 has just been released. Many of the wine writers rave about the 2015 vintage, I have tasted a few of the 2016s and I think this may be a better vintage than its predecessor.

Made in the classical white wine style, fresh and crisp, zippy and fruity. During hand harvesting the grapes are carefully inspected and bunch sorted.  In the cellar they undergo sorting again to ensure that only the best grapes go through for winemaking. Once destemmed and crush skin contact is allowed for 6 hours before the free run juice is run off and allowed to cold settle.  After fermentation, the wine is left on its fine lees for 2 to 3 months, building up mid palate flavour and creaminess. The wine is then prepared for bottling.

It looks like
Bottled under a cork closure in a Bordeaux shaped bottle, fitting for a wine which has its origins in Bordeaux. In the glass a gem bright pale straw in colour with green flashes when held up to the light.

It smells like
It’s all fresh tropical fruit with sweet limes.

It tastes like
Dazzling with its fruit and freshness. Nice full palate, well balanced with the fruit and acidity and a lovely long aftertaste.

It’s good with
Perfect mid-morning refresher or as an aperitif before a summery meal. Tracy Foulkes’s Prosciutto, Nectarine & Zucchini Salad is a great partner to this wine, and easy to make with peaches and nectarines gracing our supermarket shelves again [loud cheer!]. Clickhere for her recipe.
