Hoopenburg
Article by Christine Rudman in Die Burger of 14 September 2016 about the Hoopenburg limited release Carignan 2013.

The article refers to Hoopenburg being the fourth winery to bottle this as a single cultivar. Carignan only makes out 112 Ha or 1% of total planting in South Africa.

Carignan being a cultivar of Spanish origin but mostly planted in the Midi, France.

This limited release Carignan shows expressive red fruit flavours with soft eucalyptus undertones and a hint of white pepper.  It has a full structure, supple tannins and good freshness. The grapes that this  wine is produced from come from bush vines in Swartland. The wine was aged for 24 months in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels then lightly filtered and bottled.
