Coming out on top was the Neethlingshof Lord Neethling Pinotage Limited Release 1999 – one of only 30 wines to receive Double Gold at this “Oscars” event of the SA wine industry.
In addition to the Double Gold for Neethlingshof Lord Neethling Pinotage Limited Release 1999, the renowned Stellenbosch estate won Gold for its Neethlingshof Malbec 2015, Neethlingshof Lord Neethling Weisser Riesling Noble Late Harvest 2006, Neethlingshof Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Neethlingshof Short Story Collection Six Flowers 2016 and Neethlingshof Gewürztraminer 2010 Museum Class. Significantly, Neethlingshof was one of only three Pinotage Double Gold winners.
The achievement follows on the heels of a sterling performance only weeks ago at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), when the Neethlingshof Owl Post Pinotage 2014 won the Abraham Perold Trophy for Pinotage. Every one of its wines entered at the IWSC were awarded medals, two of which were among the competition’s highest scorers.
Neethlingshof’s achievements at Veritas 2016 has again underlined the superstar quality inherent the very foundations of its viticulture and wines – a unique thread of champion consistency. Now in its 26th year, the Veritas Awards are widely regarded as South Africa’s foremost wine championship while its seal of quality is a trusted indicator of merit.
Home to some of the region’s finest terroir, the estate is flanked by the Bottelary Hills and Papegaaisberg Mountains responsible for diverse meso-climates and the cultivation of superb wines. Its custodial approach to the land itself has seen it set land aside for conservation and made it a member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI).
