Durbanville Hills has just launched its first Chenin Blanc, which will join the label’s increasingly popular and successful portfolio of single cultivar wines, just in time for summer. Cellar master Martin Moore says that he is a great admirer of Chenin Blanc, and is thrilled to have it as part of the winery’s evolving portfolio.

“Chenin Blanc is the most widely planted wine grape in South Africa, and it continues to grow in popularity. The growth in popularity of Chenin Blanc in the global market is very promising, with international wine lovers fast discovering just how good South African Chenin Blanc is.”

He explains that Chenin Blanc has two main factors in its favour. “Firstly, the grape offers a great diversity of styles as it can be made in a fresh and fruity style, a riper and richer style, or it can be matured in oak. Secondly, it has a most attractive fruit profile which shows through in every style.

“The Durbanville Hills Chenin Blanc 2016 stems from carefully selected grapes from cool vineyards and has an abundance of tropical fruit allied to lively freshness. It has been made with minimum intervention to retain the elegance and fruitiness of the wine.”

Moore advises that the Chenin Blanc should be served slightly chilled and enjoyed with a wide selection of dishes. “It works well with grilled fish or chicken, avocado-based salads and shellfish, as well as lightly spiced Malay, Thai or Indian curries.”

The Chenin Blanc is available from a range of stores nationwide, the cellar or via the online platform, www.vinoteque.co.za.
