Perdeberg Winery
When better to get festive with Chenin Blanc than now? Perdeberg Wines – the home of Chenin Blanc and the only South African winery to produce such a wide variety of award-winning Chenin Blanc styles - says that this cultivar is so diverse it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with almost anything.

So whether you prefer a crisp MCC or to indulge in a barrel-fermented and award-winning wine, you have the choice of utter enjoyment when you opt for Chenin Blanc.

Chenin choices this Christmas:

  • The popular Perdeberg Chenin Blanc 2016 is an easy drinking wine with hints of guava, green apple and kiwi. This wine pairs well with cheeses, seafood, chicken and gammon
  • The Perdeberg Vineyard Collection Chenin Blanc 2016 is slightly more serious with notes of white peach, pear and grapefruit. Pair with roast duck with honey spice glaze and leg of lamb.
  • The Perdeberg Dry Land Unwooded Chenin blanc 2016 is one of Perdeberg’s ultra-premium Chenins. Hints of fig, grapefruit, white pear and fynbos make this wine very complex on the nose and palate. It pairs brilliantly with Roast potatoes with biltong.
  • The Perdeberg Dry Land Barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc is the crème da la crème of Perdeberg’s Chenin Blancs. Elegant aromas of the wood combines well with the stone fruit characteristics that this wine reveals. It goes superbly with turkey, gammon and seafood.
  • For something really special, how about a bottle of Chenin Blanc Brut MCC with oysters or with caramelized onions, figs with kalamata olives. The combination will complement the slight yeasty flavours and stone fruit aroma on the palate and nose.
  • Spoil yourself with a Natural Sweet Chenin Blanc. This wine shows apricots, marmalade and orange peel on the nose with hints of caramelized sugar on the palate and can either be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with amazing festive desserts, such as Christmas trifle, ice cream with dark chocolate sauce or even a delicious and gooey chocolate fondant.

Happy Festivities everyone!

Notes

  1. Originated in the Anjou region in France during the 9th century and originally known as Steen, Chenin Blanc is believed to have been one of the first cultivars to be grown in South Africa by Jan Van Riebeek in 1655. Since then, Chenin Blanc has gone on to become the most widely planted cultivar in South Africa, representing 18% of total acreage under vine.
