WTSA
With Christmas and New Year fast approaching, we look back on a very exciting and fruitful Training year at Wine Training SA (WTSA).

WTSA is a Non-Profit organisation driven by passionate staff and consultants, committed to change the lifes of individuals in the South African Wine Industry.

From a very humble beginning 29 years ago where a group of 50 Cellar Workers attended a morning workshop, the program grew with leaps and bounds to bring not only training for Cellar Assistants, but to have an impact on the personal growth of individuals.

For Wine Cellars, the training effectively improves the workforce by honouring their knowledge, skills and competencies required for the developing individual.

SHORT COURSES – SKOP

(Senior Cellar Assistant Development programme/ Senior Kelder Assistent Ontwikkelingsprogram (Afrikaans)

The SKOP programme delivers need driven tailor made technical training to the Cellar Assistant in the South African Wine Industry. The programmes are need driven and need assessments give direction to continuously improve course material and methodology.

Complimentary to SKOP, WTSA offers a Wine Marketing Course, as well as the SAWIS Administration Programme in co-operation with SAWIS.

During 2016  a total of 609 Learners Attended WTSA Short Courses. Courses are presented at Elsenburg, Graham & Rhona Beck Skills Centre in Robertson, Namaqua Winery in Olifants River Region and Orange River Winery.

ACCREDITED TRAINING

Wine Training SA is Accredited with the FoodBEV SETA, and Full Accreditation was granted recently.  A National Certificate in Winemaking – NQF 3 is presented.

The Certificate programme (National Certificate Winemaking NQF Level 3) is aimed to provide learners with national standards that represent the competencies required to meet the challenge of participating effectively in the Winemaking industry as a multi-skilled cellar practitioner.

HOSPITALITY PROGRAMME

The project consists of monthly one-day workshops held at Jordan Estate, Stellenbosch.

The level of customer satisfaction as well as winery staff who are passionate and knowledgeable about the entire winemaking process – from the soil to the senses – influence the decision to buy, the amount spent and the number of bottles purchased in a Tasting Room. It is critical to train staff in customer service, product knowledge and sales.

MATHEMATICAL LITERACY PROGRAMME

The WEF’s 2016 report ranks SA’s mathematics and science education quality lower than that of Nigeria, Mozambique, and Malawi.

This is the third year in a row that South Africa was ranked last in the World Economic Forum’s mathematics and science education quality rankings.

It should be noted that these rankings are based on the perceptions of business leaders, and make use of the WEF’s annual Executive Opinion Survey to establish how well a country’s education system is performing.

At Wine Training SA we realised that there is a tremendous problem with the basic foundation of mathematical literacy with a large percentage of our learners. This programme is supported by the Cape Wine Auction Trust and Winetech.

In conclusion we’d like to make use of this opportunity to thank you for your continuous and loyal support, without which this program would not have reached the heights it has achieved.

We look forward to remain of service to you during the years to come and hope to make a positive change to the Industry as a whole.

We wish you and your loved ones a Blessed Festive period and may the 2017 harvest be a splendid one for the SA wine industry.
