The newly launched Durbanville Hills sparkling wine was recently named the top sparkling wine at international wine challenge, Battle of the Bubbles, an event hosted by renowned Michelin star chef and wine explorer, Roger Jones. This year’s challenge involved sparkling wines from producers across eight countries, across the Champagne, Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) and Sparkling Wine categories.

Of the 37 wines entered, including wines from France and New Zealand, the Durbanville Hills sparkling wine was awarded third place in the challenge, narrowly edged out by French Champagne and South African MCC.

Martin Moore, Cellar Master at Durbanville Hills, says that the recognition is testament to the outstanding quality of South African sparkling wines. He explains that Durbanville Hills decided to expand its Sauvignon Blanc range to include this vibrant sparkling wine due to the many successful Sauvignon Blanc vintages, which have accumulated multiple accolades over the years. “The new sparkling wine boasts a unique floral design, inspired by sunny South African summer days - truly a work of art that we hope will take pride of place at any event, from an intimate dinner to a wedding reception.”

The Battle of the Bubbles judging panel included some of Cape Town’s top sommeliers as well as Allan Mullins, the head of wines at Woolworths; Wines of South Africa (WOSA)’s CEO, Siobhan Thompson; and international wine judges Dr Winnie Bowman, Angela Lloyd, Lynne Sherriff MW & Fiona McDonald.

This award winning sparkling wine is available at the Durbanville Hills cellar, via the online platform, www.vinoteque.co.za for R75 or at leading retailers. Visit www.durbanvillehills.co.za for more information.
